Kirsten is an artist from New Zealand, currently completing a PhD and lecturing in Gold and Silversmithing at RMIT in Melbourne. Her teaching and research specialises in enamelling processes for constructed jewellery. One process she has found to create reflective surfaces is a mixture of vitreous enamel and road marking beads. The beads are fired into the surface of the enamel at high temperatures.
Kirsten continues to be intrigued by Antarctica, its remoteness and simplicity of landscape. After travelling there in 2004, she said ”this experience heightened my awareness to the impacts that people have within the environment. The sparseness of the landscape allowed me to focus on the man-made objects within it.” Her exhibition on the shelf in 2007 responded to this experience.
